Our Ngo started in 2012 a field study aimed at mapping the illegal dumping, underutilized spaces and spontaneous agriculture projects existing along the banks of the Mathare River, the river running through the slum of Mathare. The aim is to identify new forms of development, shared with the population, to redevelop the river banks with projects related to agriculture and recycling. The first project was carried out in 2013 with 10 youth groups of the North Mathare area and a primary school of the City Council (the Mathare North Primary School). It is a community garden of approximately 1,000 square meters used for agricultural production, with public areas, composting areas and seedbed greenhouses. The vegetable garden supports about 40 families and the school dinner feeding program.

COLLABORATOR ARCHITECT: Francesco Segre Reinach, Maria Luisa Daglia, Gaetano Berni
The project has been fulfilled with the contribution of the degree thesis research by Riccardo Conti and Giacomo Coppo and participants of the Liveinslums 2013 workshop.
