Cairo Made Me PDF Print E-mail

“Cairo made me” collects the testimonies and watches closely the everyday life of the families that are living for generations in the northern cemetery of Cairo. From this practice of 'shadowing' (that we could define using the phrase "following like a shadow another person”) – and that was led on the field by Silvia Orazi (director) and Gaetano Berni (architect) during the production of the documentary and in close collaboration with the residents of city of the dead- a "neighbourhood laboratory" has been born aimed to listen the requests of the local community and to make the people the co-stars of the reconstruction of the urban spaces and social fabric. The project has supported a small eco-tourism project (aimed to respect the physical and social structure of the place) and the creation of an urban centre, which currently is hosting Liveinslums’s exhibitions, seminars and workshops made in Cairo.
